Dr. Poh After featuring for Nana Qwame, in ?Ashanti Volume 2, Obrafour in ?Pae Mu Kae?, and Jay Q in Platinum Compilation, Essuming Richard, known as Dr. Poh in showbiz circles, has joined the ranks of hiplife music in Ghana with his latest album ?Na Who Cause Am?.
The calculated flow of his music in his latest, done in pidgin has gained him lots of popularity in the music industry. His latest album contains eight tracks with Na Who as the title track, the others are ?Nipa Nnye? featuring Castro, ?Emno Hu? as the fourth track, with ?Maame Serwaa? and ?Wanya Me? as the fifth and sixth track respectively featuring K.K. Fosu and Pope Skinny. ?Mea Na Wope? and the instrumental version of ?Suumo Jole? completes the album.
He sings with lots of cool funkyfied tunes combined with rap in the background, all in pidgin and this style has brought a big difference in the hiplife arena all over the airwaves in Accra and other regional capitals.
For the first time on hearing it one might think that is a Nigerian song only to realize that it is produced by a Ghanaian in
the person of Mr. Richard Essuming who is only adding more flavour in the presentation of hiplife music. When I caught up with him last week, I asked him, how long he has been in the music industry. Beaming with smiles, he said that he has been in the music industry for eight years.
Young Richard Essuming is an old student of Gushen Secondary School-Tema from where he went straight into music. Before his secondary education he was at the Kings College Primary and later went to Abeka 1 J.S.S. Richard Essuming, born in Fadama a suburb of Accra, is the first three boys born to George Mprah and Esther Paakwah.
As to how he came about the lyrics of ?Na Who?, Richard said, he was inspired through a conversation he listened to between a host of a program on Adom FM and a Minister of state.
??Na Who Cause Am? was the exact question posed by the host to the Minister as to who should be blamed for the problems in the country, my producer and I were returning from a rehearsal on my debut album I was planning at that time?, he said.
Richard said that he quickly put the lyrics down and it has worked perfectly for him. Lucky Sounds-Kantamanto are the distributors while Q-Lex Entertainment is the record label.
