Nana Fynn spills his guts on payola, piracy and copyright

The music industry for sometime now has been in the news regarding the paying of royalties.

Musicians have been complaining that they don’t get what is due them, resulting in some of them ending their careers as paupers.

Talkghana had an exclusive interview with Nana Fynn . He shared his views about the situation and suggested ways to stop this unfair treatment.

According to him, the Copyright Administration of the Country should improve their administration to the point where artists would be paid anytime their songs are used for any programme or played on television and radio stations.

This, he said will bring more balance in the music industry and check the giving of “Payola” that is paying bribes to DJ’s before a musician`s song gets air play. This will also ensure that quality  music is played on air.

What DJ’s would have to do is submit a play list to the Copyright Administration a week before these songs are played to check that royalties have already been paid.

Another problem Nana Fynn talked about is piracy which also stops musicians from earning what is due them.

He said, it believed that the distributors themselves are doing the piracy. Nana Fynn pointed out that there is no way to know who is really selling except the distributors since the chart shows are not reliable, so are the music awar

Nana Fynn concluded that these problems besieging the music industry could be solved if the wide gap between the consumer and the musician is bridged.
