Nana Quame ‘fired’

An enterprising music producer, Robert N.K Awuah has condemned one of Ghana’s hiplife musicians, Nana Quame for saying he is better than Ofori Amponsah when it comes to music composition and live band performance.

The young producer, who is the chief executive officer of Bright Moon Entertainment and Consultancy (BMEC), argued that Nana Quame could not compete with Ofori Amponsah, whose records had made him what he is today.

Nana Quame had told the host of GTV “Showbiz” programme, Prince Tsegah, in an interview that he was better than Ofori Amponsah, and that he had competed with the likes of Kojo Antwi and Daddy Lumba.

He further told the host that he respects Ofori Amponsah but Ofori has to agree that he owed much of his success to producers such as Big Ben.

Robert Awuah who has plans of establishing a music school expressed surprise that Nana could make such comments about Ofori Amponsah, who many see as a role model.

He told Beatwaves that when it comes to good music and composition of good songs, Nana Quame should see himself as a small boy and a beginner in the business, who needs to learn from the likes of Ofori Amponsah.

“I do not hate Nana. I like his songs, but he should see himself as not a successful musician. I know he is struggling to survive in the music industry.

Nana Quame should keep his mouth shut because he lacks sense of direction.”

When Beatwaves contacted the communications manager of Ofori Amponsah, Francis Doku, on Nana Quame’s claims, he said Ofori Amponsah, aka Mr. All 4 Real was not in competition with any musician in Ghana or elsewhere.

According to him, Ofori is a contemporary highlife musician and currently one of the leading musicians in the country who is working tirelessly to satisfy his numerous fans.

“At the moment, Ofori is preparing for a big show later this month and therefore cannot consider being in competition with Nana Quame,” he said. He was of the view that if Nana Quame thinks he is good, then he should think of how to satisfy his fans.

Doku said the game was not about competition, but about business and how to maintain your fans in the show business.

Some music producers and fans who spoke with Beatwaves stated that since Ghanaians knew the track record of Ofori Amponsah, Nana Quame should be seen as a noisemaker who wants to advertise himself through such comments.
