Only three songs off his latest album, [4'sou,literally 'Work Hard' for 2010/2011], and the industry's most controversial lyricist, Sidney is about hitting the headlines already. “Who Born Dog” seems like the song to do the trick for the 'Abuskele' owner.
Far away in Nigeria, another controversial musician, Nico Gravity, known for his replies to controversial songs of fellow hit stars; recently replying Nigeria's top star, Timaya's popular song, has replied Sidney’s ‘Who Born Dog’.
Due to the growing popularity of Nico's version in Naija, Sidney has been thrown a challenge by a Nigeria promoter called Blue Gee (Promotions) to come face to face with Nico at the Warri Town Hall in Delta State.
Sidney told Hi Newspaper on Monday that he was yet to make up his mind on when he's going to Nigeria because “I need to be sure of a number of arrangements, including security. This is due to large number of bad comments posted on the internet especially by Nigerians since the song was leaked online. I have confirmed the deal and I know I will surely be in Nigeria on January 29, 2011”, he said.
'Who Born Dog”, is a song which satirically compares Ghana and Nigeria (Sidney obviously placing GH above Naija) in music, movies, crimes: 'Even Agya Koo against Osuofia or is it Mr. Ibu.'
Like his biggest hit, Abuskeleke (2002, which has already sold 410,000 copies till date), “Who Born Dog”, the second song on Barima Sidney's new promo CD is very much likely to cause stirs in both countries when promo proper intensifies in January. Since after 1996 Nananom (Syndey, Pozo and Jyoti), Barima Sidney has released five albums. Before the trio’s debut album, they loaned a single to hiplife's first album, MaKa A Maaka by grand papa, Reggi Rockstone).
Pozo pulled out of the trio leaving Sydney and Jyoti who released 'Everything Is Gonna Be Alright (featuring hit song Tinana Pappana). Since then Sidney has released Akofna (2002), Scnenti No, 2003, Obiaa Nye Obiaa (2005) and African Money (2008).
At press time, Sidney has released 3 singles - 'Enkoyie', ‘Who Born Dog' and 'Awuche Pongor'. The later is so far fueling sales for the album because of the star-studded video, staring Agya Koo, Majid Michel, and Funny Face etc.
While some radio bosses have asked DJs not to play 'Who Born Dog' for its content (which Sidney calls 'trivia'), the song is enjoying massive hits on the internet, especially YouTube. That has prompted the concert in Nigeria on January 29, 2011.
