Kumasi (Ashnati), 15 March '99 - The management of Mobitel on Saturday presented one carton of aromatic schnapps and a cheque for five million cedis to the Asanteman Council as its contribution towards the funeral celebrations of the late Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware the second. Mr John Osei Afriyie, Ashanti Regional Manager of Mobitel, who led a three-man delegation to the Manhyia Palace, in Kumasi said the company was shocked by the sudden death of Otumfuo Opoku Ware. Mr Afryie said the company has established cordial relationship with the late Asantehene and Asanteman since it opened a branch in Kumasi and expressed condolences to the bereaved family and Asanteman. Nana Osei Bonsu, Mamponghene and 'Nwisiahene' (Chief of Orphans), who is regarded as the "Father" of the Asantes upon the death of Asantehene, received the drinks and the cheque on behalf of the Council. He thanked the company for their donation and hoped they would come to mourn with Asanteman on the death of such a great King of the nation.
