The President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Mr Kwame Amo-Dako, today called on the government to expedite action on the salary and wage rationalisation policy, in order to "calm the nerves" of workers.
Presenting furniture worth at 8.4 million cedis to the Ahinkwa Local Authority Primary School in the Yilo Krobo district Mr Amo-Dako said the delay in the implementation of the policy, otherwise known as the Price Waterhouse report, has created anxiety among workers.
The donation forms part of the GNAT/Swedish teachers joint furniture project for deprived schools in the country. Mr Amo-Dako, also headmaster of the Ofori Panin Secondary School in Kukurantumi, called on the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES), to take a second look at the continuous assessment policy adding that the policy was putting undue pressure on teachers. The Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo, Mr Daniel Terkpetey, cautioned the people against using school furniture during funerals and litigation over school lands in the district.
