Tema regional Police Commander gets UN appointment

Tema (Greater Accra), 15 Feb. '99 - The United nations (UN) has appointed Mr Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, Assistant Commissioner of police for the Tema region, as a civilian police officer of the UN Secretariat at the Department of Peacekeeping Operations in New York. Mr Alhassan was selected out of a group of national police/military nominees from UN member-countries world-wide on merit. A statement issued in Accra on Friday by the Tema Regional Police Public Relations Unit said Mr Alhassan has served on UN missions in Namibia and Bosnia. He holds a Bachelors degree from the University of Ghana and a Masters' degree from the University of Wales. He has also attended many professional courses and workshops including management courses at the Ghana Institute of Management and Professional Administration (GIMPA). Mr Alhassan is expected to assume duty in New York City on Tuesday, February 16.
