After four years of separation Okyeame Kwame and Okyeame Quophi, who came together to form a group known as Akyeame, have reunited as brothers to continue with their unfinished job.

The group in 1997 came out with “Nyansa Po”; “Ma Sana Aba” in 1998; “Ntoasuo” in 2003 and “Apamfofro” in 2004. The separation occurred thereafter, but realizing that there is a lot more work to be done, they have joined their heads together again as they are preparing towards their new album - which is yet to be released - entitled, “Nkabom”, which literally means togetherness.

In an exclusive interview with The Statesman, the ‘Akyeame brothers’ disclosed that the reunion was going to stay forever. Again, they pointed out that it was going to portray the true talents of the group because “this time round, we are coming out in a different style all together as compared to the previous duo.”

Asked why they separated, Okyeame Kwame stated, “The reason why we separated was that after coming out with a couple of albums, we couldn’t bring our ideas together again because I wanted the album to be in my style and Quophi also wanted it to be in his own style, so it generated a misunderstanding and I decided to do mine own thing to see whether it would succeed.

“Fortunately, I succeeded but with problems. It was then that I realized that there was the need for us to put our heads together again. Besides this, I also realized that we had been good friends since 1993 and so we could not allow this little misunderstanding to separate us, and for that matter, we decided to come back and reunite.”

Indeed, Okyeame Quophi also intimated that he experienced a hell of time trying to do things on her own. He confessed, “I went through a lot of difficulties. In fact, I was like paper without any writings on it; but all the same, I managed to produce a solo album in 2005 with the title, “Kofilosofi.”

“I also went into production on radio and TV, as well as production of record labels, among others. I’m very elated for our reunion and my message to all our fans is that, they should expect something good from us very soon.”
