Pop Stars To Study Music Business

Mon, 11 Jul 2005 Source: ghanamusic.com

The Spectator, Channel R and Metro TV are collaborating to make the Pop Stars Talent Hunt one of the spectacular achievements in the music and entertainment industry this year and beyond.

This idea is a bi-annual effort to unearth hidden talents in all musical genres from highlife and hiplife to jazz and R&B. So far, over 120 talented youth comprising males and females have registers for auditioning at the Napoleon Club, Osu, Accra, and their demos will soon be recorded for them free of charge.

After they are recorded, their master-piece will be given to them to find producers, although Bibini Music Production will promote them and expose them on the local and international scene.

Ace producer, Faisal Helwani, who is the fore-front of this project, said the artistes will have the opportunity to participate to live-band performances that would be telecasted live on television.

He also said, those selected will be given enough education on the business of music and how it is run, copy-right laws, contracts, royalties, securing good managers and all facets of the industry, so that they do not end up being cheated.

According to him, there are too many crooks in the system exploiting musicians, so they need to be educated on the nitty-gritty of the industry so as not to fall prey to the vampires.

Faisal who is producing the demos of the first 30 selected pop stars said he indeed will be doing the recording of their demos and says he has not retired from music production as earlier alleged. He says he is still a producer and available to be hired and fired.

He would, however, not enter into any contractual agreement with the pop stars, but if they chose to fire him to produce them after the project he would consider it.

Faisal Helwani is working with three crack engineers and programmers for this project whose antecedents are Pop Chain (1970s) and Pop Chain and Talent Hunt (2001).
