Producers’ night was a bomb

Hypnotiq lounge, a pub located off the Oxford Street hosted one of the hottest projects in the country last Saturday night called the Producers Night. The show, which is part of a movement, intended to keep the music industry glowing with fresh talent lived way above expectations.

All the artistes had their turn to display their poetical wits and musical acumen. There is a music industry but never did it occur to people that there exists an ‘underground music factory’ that feeds the mainstream industry with talent. Some dudes who came to the show can really rap and damn they were exciting.

The producer’s night is the stage given to the underground producers who are working their backsides off to bring out crisp talents. The brain behind this concept is Papa Yaw and he says it’s a project called the Movement Project that is provided to enable artistes to freely express what they have in order to give them a world stage.

The Movement Project is not only about hip-hop but all exportable music genres that can meet the international standards. Again the project is intended to provide the audience with some quality Ghanaian music produced right here.

Some of the producers present at the event were JaySo who has worked with rap artistes such as Scientific (a Liberian). J Sound, Kobby and Earl were also in the house to give their artistes the sound and beats to sing along with.

Artistes such as D Slack (USA) gave the audience some sweet poetry. Motombo who looked a little anxious from the start also provided his version of the ‘what’ and the ‘who’ of Jesus Christ, eliciting a deserved applauds from the audience.

It was fun to see DJ Nokus emceeing the show with his baldhead. He might pass for an MC for such shows, but it will do him and us a lot of good if he stayed miles away from free styles. The format of the show was to give the producers a maximum of 30 minutes to do their worst. Some of the artistes who rocked the Hypnotiq Lounge were Kochoko, Evil Twin, Dk, Jazee and Black Benedict. The latter, Black Benedict showed what he is really made off when he performed extempore to the excitement of patrons.

Paa Yaw told Jive that the show is not the first of its kind as similar events are held at Chelsea’s Place every Wednesday called the G-String (Guitar String) Night where young musicians, comedians and poets come to display their skills.
