WAMNET two-day congress ends

Sun, 2 Aug 1998 Source: --

The President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Mrs Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie, today asked women's organisations to show commitment to their endeavours to be able to meet their set goals.

She said it is important for them to have a focus, look up to it and work towards its achievement. Mrs. Afenyi-Dadzie said this when she inducted Ghana and Nigeria as the secretary-general and Chairman respectively of the West African Media Network (WAMNET), an association of West African Anglophone media women. The ceremony was part of a two-day congress organised by WAMNET for member countries, which are Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone and the Gambia.

The main objective of the network, which was formed in 1994, is to provide a medium for interaction, friendship and solidarity among members. It also aims to foster links between the network and organisations of similar values for the social advancement of women and to facilitate the acceptance of the changing roles of women.

The GJA President charged the network to highlight the problems of women and let their voices be heard so that "as women we can overcome our difficulties".
