Gospel diva, Patience Nyarko, the "W’afom Kwan" hit maker has taken a swipe at the VGMAs board for nominating SP Kofi Sarpong in album of the year category as well as the overall artiste of the year category. This she revealed on Rainbow radio over the weekend.
According to her, Charterhouse scraped the gospel album of the year for this year's awards ceremony because the board didn’t get any album that has 3 hit songs or even more than 3 hit songs on an album and that SP Kofi Sarpong don’t even have even more than 1 hit song to merit a place in the album of the year category.
She said, “SP Kofi Sarpong's 'I Believe' album did not also promote three hit songs hence it was not good for him to gain nomination. Someone is favouring somebody because none of the gospel musicians were able to promote two or three hit songs on their album...No gospel musician qualified to be nominated in the gospel album or the overall album of the year category, so why should SP Sarpong be nominated in the album of the year category.”
She continued, “My song ‘W’afom Kwan’ topped almost all the gospel chart shows across Ghana for several months and even transcend to some secular chart shows, none of SP Sarpong song even topped any chart shows. If at least they won’t nominate my song or album, what about the likes of Oman Acheampomg’s ‘Aporsor’ or that of Obaapa Christy’s , ‘hyebre sesafo’
“I am not here to pretend or lie to gain favour from anyone; my own album failed to promote two to three hits and my colleagues alike...So why should the VGMA board nominate SP Sarpong if not for a favour being done someone, and even to the overall artiste of the year”. She questioned.
The 2016 VGMAs is slated for May 7.
