Siboat drops peace song ahead of Election 2016

Musician Siboat has called on Ghanaians to stand up and embrace peace. He made the call in a new peace campaign song titled ‘Asomdwe’ as Ghanaians go to the polls in December 2016.

The song, released on Tuesday, encourages Ghanaians to be vigilant ahead of the elections and to maintain the peace. “Ghana our motherland, pride of West Africa, let’s stand tall and defend our peace. A beacon of hope we are to nations around us. Let’s stand tall and defend our good name.”

In the song, Siboat, born Silas Karikari Mensah Boateng, also notes that both politics and democracy came to meet peace, insisting that Ghanaians must learn to tolerate each other. He also condemns fights and questions why people take to fighting. ‘Stop the insults and violence’, he added.

Ghanaians are expected to go to the polls in four months to elect a president and parliamentarians. Already, the Police Service has identified some flashpoints in some regions.

The song, which is readily available for download on soundcloud and reverbnation, ends with peace soundbites from Papa Kwesi Nduom of the PPP and Former President Rawlings.

Profile of Siboat

Siboat! “Good music never dies” is the artistic name of Silas Karikari Mensah Boateng, a Ghanaian by birth of the people of Brong Ahafo region. He is a vocalist and lyricist and one who also has a heart for good music. He has a passion for gospel and corporate music and is renowned for his solo performances of blues, jazz, soul, opera, classic and highlife gospel and inspirational songs. The range and emotional power of his voice never fails to capture people whether in an intimate social setting or in a large area.

Siboat recorded his rendition of the traditional carol “Oh Holy Night/White Christmas” medley, which was released in December 2013. This tune got him to perform on several platforms including The One Show on Viasat1 TV station, ETV Ghana morning show, Kapital radio Night of Nine lessons and carol at Golden beam hotel, Kumasi and many more not leaving out his church, ICGC Dominion Temple, Darkuman. Still swinging with moments and seasonal recognized days, he again recorded a special one he calls “MY HAPPY VALENTINE” in February 2014 since he felt the gospel industry was giving back to the people love tunes to hold on to in such seasons, making them always follow love songs by secular artistes. He also has three other singles to which one is original and the other, a cover.

Siboat recently embarked on two projects, a self-composed (peace song) and a mash up cover of two borrowed songs. These were promoted on his Siboat Music Facebook page of about 3,600 followers and other social media platforms. His media partners also featured his songs regularly on Gospel link Online, Gospelgh, Kapital radio and Sunny fm.

Siboat has performed and shared stages with international singers like Majek Fashek (Nigeria), Bibie Brew (Ghanaian French born international artiste) and Toni Mansion of Jazz Tone Productions (Ghana). On both secular and gospel platforms, Siboat raised standards and bars by rubbing shoulders with local artistes like Joe Mettle, Eugene Zuta, Oware Junior, Eshun (X Factor), Laami (Project Fame), Francis Amo, Bernice Ofei, Pat Thomas and many more. Again, he has been in both secular and gospel concerts in Kumasi, Accra, Tamale, Sunyani, Tema, Cape Coast, Bolgatanga and Koforidua. Not leaving out the intellectuals’ drama and choir annual celebration dubbed INTELLECTO on the traditional university campuses on which he has performed immensely and also contributed on the secretariat board.

Also to add up, Siboat performed at the 2015 awards show at Movenpick Hotel, Accra, which celebrated the various hardworking sectors of our country’s economy. Examples are the Financial Experts’ Awards, Construction Awards, Ghana Automobile Awards and the Oil and Gas Awards.

Siboat began singing while in the primary school, singing in the same church that he still sings at today. It is here that he found and developed this wonderful talent. He has been choir director right from the home church to sister churches through high school and even university. He was first noticed as a singer outside the church while he was on the Glo X Factor singing competition, Lagos- Nigeria in the Symphony trio group. Serving as the lead singer and also group head for the trio, his pure and unique voice attracted the group so much fans and applause anytime they were on stage as he was very outstanding. Silas is a captivating performer with a strong distinct style. This was evident when on the 5th week of the Glo X Factor show, Siboat broke a moment’s silence with his part of “put your head on my shoulder” by Paul Anka . This took them to top six, very close to the finals after which they got evicted. He was also a first runner up of the just-ended Voice of the West Hills Mall competition.

This opened a new horizon for Siboat but instead of following the path of other celebrated groups, he left to find his own creative voice by returning to his gospel roots. What has emerged is a captivating performer with a strong and distinct style that is attracting attention everywhere.
