A few years ago a music recording company called Ghana Music Factory (GMF) came out to record some Ghanaian musicians and one of the people who were lucky to be on that label was Sidiq.
As it would later turn out, the company was unable to promote the works it had produced and the artistes were disappointed that their music works were not well patronised by the public.
Although this first outing by Sidiq did not go well as he would want it to, it did not hold him down as the gentleman has released his second album which has been enjoying tremendous airplay.
The album titled ?Bombogya? is one that Sidiq is very confident would help him write his name in the books of the most successful musicians in Ghana. ?Bombogya? is an Akan word that ?describes the lantern used by hunters when they go on their hunting expedition?, was how Sidiq explained the meaning of the album?s title.
?Since that flashlight illuminates the way for the hunter to see I am also out to brighten the musical corner and that is the reason why I chose to name this album ?Bombogya??. One very interesting song on the album is ?Akokome? which is a love song and on it Sidiq tries to describe how he has taken over by the love of his partner. It is a song done in the dzama vein but he tries to ?smuggle? a couple of raps for a good measure.
Instruments used on the song are all traditional and so one hears the dawuro, maracas, drums, Yaa Amponsah and others very well in the background.
Perhaps the song that would make a lot of people recognise Sidiq is ?Alangadwoa?. It was on his first album, albeit a bit improved on the latest one.
It has a good chorus that has the sweet voice of a lady whose singing goes ?like mummy and daddy warned that alangadwoa is not good?. A little rap here and there helps to make the song one to be remembered by a lot of people who would listen to it.
Sidiq may not be a hiplife artiste in the true meaning of the genre, but his soft spot for rap cannot be hidden from even the most casual listener. On each of the songs there is some rap. This could mean that he either wishes to appeal to all categories of music lovers doing it.
Born Samuel Owusu ?some twenty something? years ago, the artiste called Sidiq said he was in the music industry to make an impact. ?I am expecting a lot from this album, I expect it to make a tremendous impact on the market,? were his optimistic words.
Sidiq?s album was produced for Slo Entertainment and it being distributed by Lucky Music and Rocky Sounds.
