Tamale, (Northern Region). 12 Oct, '98 Mr Lucio Gyil, assembly member for Kalpohin estates in the Tamale Municipality has urged district assemblies to check the growing trend of religious, political and ethnic differences among members. Speaking at a meeting with his electorate at the weekend, Mr Gyil asked the people to see the district assemblies as a non-partisan institution and co-operate with their representatives to help develop their localities.

He stressed the need for presiding members to liaise with the unit committees in the enforcement of bye-laws enacted by the assembly. Residents complained about poor water supply, indiscriminate disposal of waste and lack of maintenance at the Kalpohin low-cost houses area.

They appealed to the assembly member to take the matter up with the assembly. Alhaji Yakubu Bukari, presiding member of the assembly commended the people for their commitment to development of the area.

Alhaji Salifu Issifu, a retired trade unionist, who presided appealed to residents to serve on the various sub-committees of the assembly to facilitate development. GRi
