The Omanyeaba Dance Ensemble Has Launched A New CD, "Djomo"

Omanyeaba Ghanaian Dance ensemble Omanyeaba Dance Ensemble, has released a spirit-filled and truly one-of-a-kind CD dubbed ?DJOMO?. Although rooted in traditional music, Omanyeaba explains: "DJOMO is a Ga word meaning great blessings".

The CD is an innovative African rhythm with traditional African instruments. Composed and arranged by Omanyeaba Dance Ensemble, Djomo is a blend of traditional authentic African rhythms, sound and traditional African instruments.

The eight track CD that has lyrics in a number of Ghanaian languages boasts of a new version of what incorporates traditional instruments like Bells, Shakers, "Kpanlogo" and "Gome" drums, Ashiwa (thumb piano), Malacas and Okpolu (Can Guitar).

Omanyeaba is now capturing the nation's attention with their powerful traditional music and dance. Omanyeaba Dance Ensemble is an extraordinary acclaimed musicians, educators, and composers from Southern Ghana. The founding members are rooted from the coastal fishing towns of Accra. The founding members are also the hereditary keepers of the family royal drums.

Omanyeaba founding members has kept up this family tradition all of their life by struggling to maintain and nurture the traditional instrument, music, and rhythms of West Africa. The dance ensemble taught and performs all over Ghana and some of the leading members, to the international seen, like U.K, Australia and United State of America. Wherever they go, they brings along their passion for music, dance and drumming.

Omanyeaba means 'blessing' in the local language of their hometown of Accra. These exciting percussion and dance ensemble present a high-energy and dynamic performance featuring music, drumming, dance, and percussion and soaring vocal harmonies. Their name becomes clear as you experience their performance, loving and celebrating their blessing through music and dance.

The new CD also features the song Deneke (I want to learn how to speak English), Noko Yee djen (Something is on the earth) and Wole (We don't know). All three compositions are a part of a trilogy that chronicles the founding member?s life as young adults struggling to nurture the traditional instrument, music and rhythms of West Africa.

Mr Senyo Kpelly of the Cultural & Academic Travel Organisation (CATO), managers of the band says, this new cd is a ?revival of a vital art?. She said Omanyeaba Dance Ensemble will promote the music cd during their 2005 Tour of the USA. Omanyeaba Dance Ensemble has shared the stage with the African Show Boys and at many festivals in Ghana. 

Across the Way production in the USA is currently booking the Dance Ensemble for lectures and performances throughout 2005 in the USA. Omanyeaba Dance Ensemble will also perform to craving audience in FloydFest in Virginia, USA during their 2005 USA tour.
