Accra (Greater Accra) 29 March '99 Accra Hearts of Oak strolled to the one-eighth stage of the Champions' League preliminary rounds with a 6-0 thrashing over Sony Ela Nguema of Equatorial Guinea in their second leg match played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday. Hearts, having won 3-0 over Nguema in Equatorial Guinea two weeks ago, qualified on a 9-0 aggregate. Osei Kuffour and Ishmael Addo struck twice each and Osmanu and substitute Ben Acquah completed the rout with a goal apiece for the Phobians in a one-sided match. Wearing red and yellow jerseys with red and yellow shorts to match, Hearts attacked from the kick-off. Osei Kuffour opened the goal harvest for the Phobians in the 28th minute when he fired home a quick one-two move with bulky striker Osmanu Amadu. Just after the goal, the visitors, who arrived last night for the match, showed signs of tiredness. Hearts capitalised on the situation to slot in two more goals before the break, through Ishmael Addo and Kuffour. Addo pounced on a through ball and squeezed it from an acute angle in the 34th minute while Kuffour chipped the ball over goalkeeper Epul Estanislao from a similar position in the 38th minute to make it 3-0 for Hearts. The only attempt at goal by the visitors before the break was in the 41st minute when midfielder Micha Juan hit the wood works from an indirect free kick. Hearts brought on Ben Acquah for Edmund Copson in the 55th and three minutes later Acquah sent a pass to Osmanu to register Hearts' fourth goal from a powerful long-range shot. Hearts' left winger Robert Saba gave way to Desmond Amoah in the 63th minute while the visitors replaced Olo Marcelino with Ekang Casimiro a minute later. But it was Hearts, who netted two more goals through Addo and Acquah in the 65th and 89th minutes to end the game 6-0 in their favour.
