VIP After their success story during the just ended Ghana Music Awards and KORA All Africa Awards, the indomitable and irresistible road show crew VIP (Vision ? In ? Progress) are making bid to be the first black youth group from downtown Nima- Ghana to have ever worked with an ?ambassador? musically.
Speaking to them at the Hush Hush studios where the project is taking place, Lazzy the leader of the group declared ?We are doing this for mother Africa and it is our hope that this small quote will go a long way to end whatever carnage is going on in Africa?.
Ambassodor Juli Standing in front of me was a respectfully dressed woman in a pair of blue jeans with a white top who has methodically won the hearts of both her people at home (Liberia) and the international world.
She is a great and courageous young woman in her late 30?s, that to me she is a peerless performer with some incredible albums to her credit.
No wonder she?s seriously working round the clock to be recognized and accepted in this part of the world. To her, the struggle still rages on till as she puts it ?the war in Liberia and other part of Africa is totally eliminated, no more war?.
?During the war we came to Ghana where we were readily accepted and accommodated. This is pay-back time by saying ?Thank You Ghana? through my music? she declared.
African music in the late 60s and 70s features a generation of talented female singers like Angelique Kidjo, Brenda Fassie, Yvonne Chaka, Mariam Makeba and a host of others who were able to combine interesting ethnic musical forms with true love and talent for performing but with Ambassador Juli, she has moved a step further by adding some humanitarian gesture, all geared towards improving the living standard of the local people.
Her original composition inspired by the suffering and melancholy her people went through during those turbulent periods were well received by her people. Success only intensified the flow of her creative vision.
She broadened her personal music horizon as she combined the best African sound: mixed Zaireco (Liberia version of suokus), hiplife and traditional music while continuing a tradition of excellence in song writing, composing, arranging and singing. The result is her latest album ?Fight No More? (WAKII), in collaboration with VIP.
According to her, since she represents peace in the sub-region and Afro centric movement which seek to promote the interest of the people, she is of the view that music can be used effectively to educate the masses about dangers of war.
?My mission now is to see how I can be received by Ghanaians. We (Liberians) have suffered so much and I don?t want any country to go through what we?ve been through? she declared.
Ambassador Juli has had some great hits to her repertoire. Amongst them are ?Tribute?, ?Bolo bolo?, ?Peace in Mano River Basin? and ?African unity?. Currently she is working on an eight-track album in Hush Hush studios with engineers like JQ and Augustus from Liberia at the helm.
Look for the highly anticipated platinum album ?Fight No More? featuring performances from VIP of Ghana. Other tracks are ?Juli Manwayee Yan Kai? (listen to me), ?Laku Lah?( the name Liberia is a ringing bell ? meaning every where, Liberia .. war, Liberia?War), ?Atulay Lay? (feeling of war no more) ?Tribute to the Pan African fighters? and ?Lonka Lenleh?. Others are ?Ahomka Wom? and its remix.
Ambassador Juli, a strong advocate for children came from a village in Liberia called Konola, went through a difficult time but with determination, dedication, and zeal, she has been able to go through life successfully.
The successful young, talented, pretty and fluent musical diva, who is also dabbled as the Traditional Queen of Liberia is a mother of three, two boys and a girl. No matter who you are, once you are determined you can do it. We should not underestimate anybody.
