Nigerian artiste Wizkid announced during his performance at the 2016 Ghana Music Awards held over the weekend that his label, StarBoy WorldWide Records had signed Ghanaian artistes: Efya, R2Bees and Mr. Eazi.
The latter early this week spoke to Antoine Mensah, host of Lifestyle Cafe on Live FM about why he joined Wizzy’s label.
“…I feel like Wizkid is taking it further than Fela (Kuti) did. And if I will actually ride with anybody, I might as well ride with somebody who is near the throne… because I feel I’m a king in my own right,” The ‘Skin Tight’ hitmaker said.
“And in African music right now, and with all due respect to everybody, every African artiste, Wiz (Kid) is king’ing right now. For me it was something I subconsciously wanted and it came. The agenda is to colonise the world with African music.”
Eazi’s ‘Bankulize’ catapulted him to mainstream appreciation, but he had been performing long before then. A Nigerian by birth, he is currently based in Ghana.
