The long standing debate as to who remains supreme in Ghanaian Highlife circles, between Kojo Antwi and Daddy Lumba may come to a crescendo this Xmas in Kumasi, in what connoisseurs of the game would term as the clash of the titans, as BET honouree cum KORA award winning, Kojo Antwi engages time tested, evergreen Daddy Lumba now DL in a turf war.
Event publicist and internet blogger, Kwabena Agyeman-Kobia previews what is anticipated in Oseikrom this Xmas in the following article. The Gar en City is expected to be inundated with a pack of Christmas events that will set the city on fire, prominent amongst them will be the 24/25/26 December episodes of Amakye Dede,Kojo Antwi and Daddy Lumba.’The Serious Man ‘Iron Boy Abrantie Amakye Dede is rumoured to be readying to stage a performance possibly on the 24th December at a venue yet to be confirmed by organizers of the show.
Similarly ,the man largely considered as Ghana’s most internationally accomplished and recognized artiste ,Mr Music man Kojo Antwi, who performed in a well attended show last year in Kumasi is set to stage a comeback this year, as part of his countrywide tour dubbed ‘Rock Da Planet’ at the Miklin Hotel on December 25.
However, what is yet to be determined is who’s most likely to draw the biggest crowd and confirm his dominance, as the competition gets keener with the entrance of Charles Kwadwo Fosu ,Daddy Lumba into a territory believed to be the latter’s ‘home’.
Daddy Lumba will stage his first ever live performance in Kumasi in a show dubbed ‘The Homecoming Concert’ which will feature silky voiced contemporary highlife icon Kwabena Kwabena, at the ultra-modern Royal Lamerta Hotel, Ahodwo. What appears dramatic as the excitement soars and the momentum gathers is a sudden alignment by radio personalities with the respective teams of both Kojo Antwi and Daddy Lumba, in a typical political fashion as though it were presidential run-off between Nana Akufo-Addo and John Mills. Indeed Kumasi will have a Christmas with a difference.
