Who Said We Split? ? Jane And Bernice

Mon, 22 Jan 2007 Source: ghanamusic.com

Jane and Bernice, the Ghana Music Awards (GMA) gospel music prize winners are reported to have split to pursue separate solo careers.

Ms Jane Ayeh, a member of the duo who spoke for her partner and on her own behalf, told The Mirror that ?we have also heard about the gossip but the fact is that we have not split as being rumoured. We are still solidly together as Jane & Bernice and by Gods grace we are doing well,?

She said the rumour started when she fell ill sometime last year but the group had to honour their part of contracts with event organisers so the other member, Ms Bernice Mohammed (popularly known as Bernice) had to perform alone at those events.

She added that their fans might have found it strange that Bernice performed alone at programmes and therefore concluded that they had separated.

?Indeed, we just returned from a trip to Italy and we are preparing to tour the US very soon as ?Jane & Bernice and not as individuals,? Jane pointed out.

According to Jane she has now recovered from the illness and will be seen with Bernice at events to quell the rumour. She said the tittle-tattle had not negatively affected them and that they are as committed to the two-woman group as ever.

?Indeed, prayers and transparency have kept us together all these years and mere rumours cannot separate us. We are not even thinking about splitting. Bernice and I are more than friends. In fact we are more like sisters? she stressed.

The two got together in 1990 when they met at the Word of Life Christian Centre in Accra.

Over the years, they have released five albums plus a remixed work of some of their hits. Their first album, ?Oseeyei?, was produced on the Christian Music Shop label in 1995.
A year later, they released ?Calvary Abrantie? which was produced by Q-Music. In 1998, they came out with ?Nkwa Gye Kuruwa? on the same label.

Two years later the duo released the award winning album, ?Ayeyi? on their own record label, Jaben. They also produced their latest work, ?Asem No Nie? on their label, Jaben. It was released in 2005. To their fans, Jane said, ?keep cool, we still together?.
