Who Wins What At Nescafe African Revelations Final: Things To Know About The Contestants

Sat, 26 Nov 2005 Source: ghanamusic.com

There are shows and there are programmes. Then there are events that transcend even concerts.

Such is the case with Nescafe African Revelation, an event that helps unearth new talents. This event is being put together by the biggest promoting company by name STB MCcann for Nescafe (Nestle) and organized by Top Dogg.

Out of a lot of aspiring young musicians, thirteen people have become the focus of Nescafe African Revelation this year.

12 0’clock, NLC, African Drum, Kla-la, Nsuo, Agoro, Mmrantipa, Nkenten, Ranking Family, Nkwantanan, 3 Units, Traffic and Key Holders were handpicked by the judges of the event and will be vying for the post of the next champion after Praye on the 26th November.

Ghana Music.com takes it upon itself to bring you a profile of seven of the groups and will bring the rest soon.

Nkwantanan

T’di based Nkwantanan was formed by Kingsley Opoera, William Kofi Antwi, Newman Tetteh-Nartey and Joseph Sam in July 2000.

Nkwantanan realizing that NAR has brought them into the limelight told Ghana Music.com that they will do their possible best to grab any musical career that comes their way even if they fail to clinch the ultimate prize at stake on the finals.

When it comes to talent shows like this, what all the contestants say is that on the final day, the crowd should expect something extraordinary and that is exactly what Nkwantanan said to us.

Nkwantanan has a lot of songs under their sleeves and hope that winning NAR will put them on a bigger map for music-minded people to help them out.

Nkenten

Nkenten joined forces after realizing that they had good potentials when they were recording in the same studio. ?

The group is made up of Nana Kwame Charles, Danso Elijah Owusu and Kwaku Amoako all based in Asafo-Akim.

Their dreams and aspirations are to win the NAR competition and then become the greatest stars ever. Nescafe African Revelations has turned Praye and Wutah into stars now and they hope to achieve that goal.

African Drum

Being the only girl-group of the contest, African Drum comprises of Rita Kwofie, Eunice Osabutey and Ruth Williams. African Drum is a group that is confident of walking away with the grand prize at the Ghana final of the 2005 Nescafe African Revelation.

The trio in an interview said that they were able to come this far due to determination. The interesting thing is that a new genre of music has been introduced by this group -“hipmix” and they hope to make it big with this new genre.

Ranking Family

Do you want to know how they came about with the group name? It’s very simple? They got the group name from their last names -Sugar Ranking, Razzy Ranking and Sushy Ranking.

There is a saying that goes like “If at first you don’t succeed, try again”. Having that in mind, when they failed to win in Koforidua, they tried again in T’di (Takoradi) and wow, they were able to make the judges proud.

They are optimistic that the Ghana finals will see them representing Ghana fully at the Central and West Africa finals scheduled to take place next year. However, they want people to expect nothing but great music on Saturday when they mount the stage.

A coin has two sides – front and back and that means in life, things either work out or not thus they are not much bothered if they fail to step into the shoes of Praye but all the same hope to be the next ambassadors.

Mmrantipa

Matured, focused and now unstoppable, Mmrantipa who took part in last year’s audition never gave up and tried their hands again at NAR this year and I think success has shined on them again. ?

The members are made up of Jonathan (a musician), Teddy (a radio student) and Osumanu (a marketing student).
?
Mmrantipa have always guided themselves with four principles which are ‘exercising of the voice and fitness (physical)’, ‘matured lyrics to be accepted by all (lyrical)’, ‘conscientious (digital)’ and praying for God’s guidance to succeed (biblical)’. Put all the four principles together and you get Mmrantipa. ?

Nsuo

Representing the Tamale zone, Nsuo made up of Kingsley, Samuel and Gerald now have the ultimate goal to win the grand prize at Nescafe African Revelation finals.

The emergence of Nescafe African Revelation has changed a lot of young artistes’ life and Nsuo hope they would have a good life with NAR.

Nsuo (water) who are also underground MCs believe that after winning NAR, they would go on to change the music scene.

With over 30 songs, Nsuo hope to secure a good deal after winning NAR and quench the thirst of Ghanaian music lovers.

Kla-la

Kla-la purposely joined forces because of the Nescafe African Revelation competition and have not regret ever coming together. To be crowned the new kings of NAR 2005 is the main goal of Kotey Neequaye, Love Adjei and Shalom known as Kla-la by fans out there.

Try again is the chorus of one of Aaliyah’s songs. I hope Kla-la took a scope from this song when they failed to win in Ho and tried again in Koforidua which saw them through.

Agoro

Agoro proved to all why they chose to compete in Tamale and it was obviously clear when they mounted on stage to move the crowd into frantic ecstasy with their dynamism and energy bringing traffic to the township of Tamale.

The large number of audience that gathered to witness Agoro during the NAR in Tamale was huge and by now, most of them might be in Accra to support them since that was what they told us after the show.

3 Units

They were part of the last group that was tested by NAR the star maker. When the auditioning started it wasn’t isn’t at all for the judges but in every competition or game we all know there is always a winner and 3 units showed to the judges that they were ready for the battle of the NAR crown.

3 Units and Mmrantipa will be representing the Greater Accra zone after they both sailed through by composing a song about Nescafe in the first round, later performing an accapella made by them and for the last round did their own song with beats.

NLC

It has always been joy for Naughty Lords Clan (NLC) after they qualified for the finals of NAR slated for Ohene Gyan Stadium on 26th November. Kwame Osei Owusu, Edwin Amponsah Sakyi and Listowell will be overjoyed if they are able to step into Praye’s shoe.

NLC who represented the Ashanti zone after a hard round came out as winners. The rain that continued to disrupt the program did not ‘kill’ the spirits of NLC as their fans and supporters always kept coming back anytime the show was rescheduled.

NLC will complete the journey to stardom only if they win NAR 2005.

Traffic

Made up of George Yeboah Snr., George Yeboah Jnr. and Gideon Bruce, people who watched Traffic on Nescafe Half Hour on Metro TV will side with me that this group is exceptional from the other groups.

Come Saturday on the national finals of NAR, we will see who is who.

Ghana Music.com will keep you posted as the information on NAR trickles in.
