Accra (Greater Accra) 27 Nov '98 Two policemen from the Police Striking Force in Accra who allegedly went on an operation to arrest a resident at Ablekuma in Accra last Tuesday, November 24, are missing.

They are believed to have been murdered by land guards and buried secretly or are being held hostage.

The victims, Police Constable Owusu Sekyere of GTV Taikwando fame and attached to the National Police Academy and Training School and one Jerry, of the Striking Force.

Sources at the Greater Accra Police Command which pleaded anonymity said at dawn last Tuesday, Constable Owusu Sekyere and Jerry dressed in mufti went to Ablekuma with a white Mazda vehicle with registration number GR2024 P to arrest a suspect whose name is not immediately known.

The sources revealed that the two policemen were not on official assignment.

The sources said the two policemen attacked the residents amidst shooting in an attempt to coerce and handcuff the suspect. The said suspect raised the alarm that armed robbers were attacking him. A mob suspected to be mainly land guards came to rescue the suspect and vandalised the vehicle being used by the policemen. The windscreen was smashed and the tyres deflated with bullets. The sources said bullet holes and blood stains were all over the car.

A search conducted by the police on the vehicle also revealed that an AK. 47 riffle, tear gas and shells were in the vehicle. The Odorkor Police had managed to retrieve all the ammunition and the rifle but no arrest has been made so far. The Mazda (Operational Car) has been sent to the Odorkor Police pending investigations.
