2 Toff

Sat, 10 Dec 2005 Source: ghanamusic.com

These days, everyone knows the name of hiplife group 2 Toff made up of Red Eye (sound engineer, hiplife rapper and singer) and Oguns (hiplife rapper and singer).

Bouncing onto the Ghanaian music scene this year, there has been no turning back for them. They can be remembered for their album titled ‘Oblayoo’, which had hit single, ‘Yenabra’ featuring Castro that did well in Europe than Ghana.

2 Toff is not only famous in the hiplife game but they are also known for their hard-hitting lyrics in Ga and Twi.

2 Toff who have been away from the scene granted us (Ghana Music.com) an interview at their Kaneshie based recording studio, Nature Works Entertainment.

As I stepped into the studio, Red Eye was busily recording some songs whiles Oguns was taking a shower after some music rehearsals.

Ghana Music.com: So what’s up with 2 Toff?
Red Eye: We are coming out soon. We’ve confirmed that the album will have 15 songs on the CD and 10 on the cassette.

Ghana Music.com: What’s the title of the new album you are cooking up?
Red Eye: ‘Odo Mu Nsemsem’

Ghana Music.com: Why such a title, ‘Odo Mu Nsemsem’?
Red Eye: It’s about experiences in life. Within the short time that we have been in Ghana, a lot has happened in our lives. We want to tell the outside world that love has so many problems and it can happen to anyone.

Ghana Music.com: Who are some of the artistes who blessed the album with their voices?
Red Eye: We have Kwaadee, Bandana and LA (Latifah and Anansewaa). The artistes we featured were all around when we were recording and decided to kill our beats with their lyrics.

Ghana Music.com: What is so different about this album?
Red Eye: This album is far different because the first one was just an introduction. The new one will show the real us. We used the first one to study the music market. Thus, I would term the first one a learning album. The difference between ‘Oblayoo’ and the new one is that there is more seriousness and maturity on the upcoming one. I mean you will experience the real 2 Toff.

Ghana Music.com: What kind of rhythms are on it?
Red Eye: We have soul, R&B, funk, our own local highlife and some international rhythms on the new stuff.

Suddenly, Oguns pops his head in the studio and joins the interview.

Ghana Music.com: What do you also have to say about your second album?
Oguns: We know this album will touch many people. (He pauses for a minute). We dedicate this album to God for making all songs possible. I don’t want to talk much on the album but want people to buy the album and judge it for themselves.

Ghana Music.com: When are you guys dropping the album?
Red Eye: Our producer is in the states now, but as soon as he returns, you will hear something from us. Hopefully December 20th.

Ghana Music.com: Currently, are some artistes recording in your studio?
Oguns: Yes, some artistes like Bright of Buk fame, Okra, Castro and Batman have some unfinished works here. But the ones who have finished recording are Okomfoo Kwaadee, Bandana, Shancoma, Lord Addy and Backbone.

Ghana Music.com: How many video clips are you shooting for this particular album?
Oguns: We plan to shoot all the songs on the album because we believe it will land us a good buyer for the album.

Ghana Music.com: Your last words for your fans.
Oguns: This album is dedicated to the women and men in relationships. I also want people to listen to the whole album and judge it for themselves.

Ghana Music.com: What about you, Red Eye?
Red Eye: My last words are on the outro of the album so they should go get a feel of my vibes when it comes out.
