Topping this year's nominations as the highest female hiplife artiste to be nominated, Mzbel says it would be a tough one for her, as she will be competing with male artistes in all of the categories she is in.
She feels cool about her nominations but a little bit bad about she being disqualified from some categories because her album had something to do profanity.
She bluntly said she is not expecting any award because in all her categories, she is contesting with male artistes who equally have very good albums or songs. "I don't have hope and have lost hope already before the show".
Hey, who knows what might happen if she wins as she continues to battle her KNUST case in court with the university and make more headlines in and outside Ghana.
I hope at the end of the awards night, Mzbel will step upstage to receive an award, and look at the male artistes telling them, "Next year, it will be yours."
Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, Nana Quame, Ofori Amponsah and K. K. Fosu, are all contemporary highlife singers who have received awards since the event started.
No doubt about it Kwabena Kwabena went bananas when I told him he was up for seven nominations.
This being his first nomination in any award ceremony, Kwabena Kwabena further says being nominated even means he is a winner and that God is great.
He's sees Rasta or PV of Wutah as a big threat to him because of his powerful vocal performance. Other than that, no one stands a chance against him in the Best Male Vocal Performance category.
Kwabena Kwabena surprised me in my office when he said Ofori Amponsah should carry the day with the highest awards. "He is the man of the year, not because I have a good repoire with him but his album has five to six good songs on it, so he deserves to be the artiste of the year", he said.
He continues to say the GMA awards is a good thing and feels good to be recognized but leaves the other categories for the public to decide for him.
Noble Nketsia is another big gospel name heading into the GMA's hall of fame with seven nominations. Speaking on phone with Noble, he said "its a good feeling and is an honour, and am sure of winning lots of awards in the gospel areas".
Noble says he has repackaged his album and has seriously started campaigning with a new video clip from his album. Noble's soulful and inspirational hits 'Mmofaria' and 'Momme Tie" stand good chances of winning awards.
Of course, this being the GMA 2006, every artiste being nominated expects to win. Stay tuned with Ghana Music.com to catch up to date stories that crop up.
