Wendy Shay is a Ghanaian singer
Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay has opened up about her personal life, revealing how losing her father at a young age affected her emotionally and shaped her independence.
In her words, her father passed away when she was only two years old.
According to her, she has no memories of him but believes his absence influenced several parts of her life.
“I never really experienced that emotional father love,” she told Kafui Dey.
Wendy Shay explained that growing up without a father figure made it difficult for her to rely on others emotionally, especially men.

“I had to learn how to allow myself to be helped,” she stated.
The singer said she grew up around strong and independent women, something she believes contributed to her determination in the music industry.
At the same time, she admitted that she often prefers isolation and does not maintain many close friendships.
“Till now, I don’t really have friends,” she revealed.
According to her, she has always been comfortable being alone and sees herself as someone driven more by purpose than social circles.
“I see myself as an eagle, and eagles fly alone,” she said.
The singer noted that while she enjoys fun moments, she has become more intentional about the people she allows into her life.
“I choose people purposefully now,” she explained.
Wendy Shay also shared memories of her childhood in Ghana before relocating to Germany.

She said she lived with her aunt and uncle alongside her cousins while her mother worked abroad.
According to the musician, that period taught her togetherness and family bonding.
She described herself as naturally introverted despite her energetic public image.
“I like my own company. I can stay indoors for a week.”
The singer also spoke about growing up as the first child among her siblings and how she prefers leading by example instead of forcing authority on others.
