De-Lion
Fast rising Ghanaian Dancehall artiste De-Lion has described the musical style of fellow Dancehall King Shatta Wale as unauthentic to the dancehall genre.
The ‘Pampadey’ singer told The Big X Show Host, Real Eugene on Radio Univers last Saturday that those days when Shatta Wale churned out original dancehall music were over and that he now does music that only appeals to the masses.
De-Lion said, “I don’t do ‘Kpu Kpa kpu kpa’ songs, I’m a serious dancehall boy… the time I knew Shatta Wale to be doing dancehall was way back… If you say you are a dancehall King, then please do dancehall, even if it’s an Afrobeat, represent yourself as the dancehall artiste you are… I wouldn’t say I’m a dancehall artiste and then you’ll hear me doing something different”.
When asked if he is bothered about the potential backlash he may receive when the Shatta Movement fans are made aware of his assertions, De-Lion retorted, “Even their SM King knows this, talk less of his fans. I deal with the head and you’re talking about the tail.”
The Currency Island record label signee De-Lion however rated his top five artistes in the Ghanaian industry as Yogi Doggy, Black Prophet, Stonebwoy, Samini and Luther respectively. De-Lion has recorded songs with the likes of Cabum, Luther among other top tier artistes and promised to drop some exciting videos this year.
