Adama gets world title opportunity

Accra , Jan 11, GNA - Ghana’s Osmanu Adama, has been presented with an opportunity to take a shot at the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Middleweight title in February, this year.

Adama, who holds the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) International Middleweight title is expected to fight the IBF champion, Daniel Geale on February 29, with Australia as the possible venue.

Samir Captan, Chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) told GNA Sports in an interview that negotiations have reached an advanced stage but the two camps have some few knotty points to settle.

He said the two camps are yet to decide on the purse for the match and was confident they will agree on common grounds to make the fight a reality.

Captan said the GBA is also working out an arrangement that might push the fight to Ghana, adding that they will need to work hard to convince the Australian to fight in Ghana.

He said the only obstacle will be the huge purse, adding that it will be a determining factor in deciding the venue of the fight.

The GBA Chairman said the fight presents Ghana with the best opportunity to win another world title and so all effort will be put in place to aid the fighter achieve the goal.

He said that, it will also be the first time the nation will have a title from the heavy weight divisions in the sport.

Captan said Adama has what it takes to annex the trophy and called on Ghanaians to support him to win laurels for the nation.

Adama, born in 1980, joined the professional ranks in 2001 and remains one of the nation's prospects in the sport.
