Agbeko, Anyetei to rumble for Commonwealth title

Accra, Sept 15, GNA - All is set for a top brass Commonwealth title fight between two of Ghana's finest bantamweights, Joseph "King Kong" Agbeko and Anyetei "the Chameleon" Laryea at Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, October 29. The fight, which is at the instance of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) will grace and add fillip to Ghana's hosting of the 50th Anniversary Annual General Meeting of the Commonwealth Boxing Council (CBC).

Mr Moses Foh-Amoaning, acting chairman of the GBA said both boxers had agreed to fight and the decision had been communicated to the Commonwealth Boxing Council. The chairman said Mr Simon Block, head of the CBC was greatly enthused about the fixture, adding that the duel would be "a world class fight" considering the pedigree of the two boxers. Confirming the fight, Mr Freddie Annan, the London based manager of Agbeko said he had already paid his boxer's training fees to enable him to prepare adequately for the match. He said he would meet with the managers of Anyetei to discuss the settlement of the one thousand pound sanctioning fee, which must be paid to the CBC and assured that it would not pose any threat to the fight.

Meanwhile the two boxers are sure of victory on fight day, as they both boasted of knowing each other well enough to enable them to tilt the fight in each other's favour. Until three weeks ago, Agbeko and Anyetei both trained at the Attoh Quarshie gym under the tutelage of coach Alloway. Anotherr big fight on the card will be a Commonwealth super featherweight final eliminator between Malik Jabir and Kpakpo Allotey. On the same bill, Brimah "Bukom Banku" Kamoko will keep a date with a Nigerian opponent in an African Boxing Union title fight while, other top class matches are also being worked out to make the night a memorable one for boxing fans.
