US based former boxer, Alex Ali Baba has weighed in on the circumstances surrounding Emmanuel Tagoe’s failed weight test ahead of his fight against Gerardo Robles and is sympathizing with Tagoe for the almost no-show.

Baba who has been residing in the US since retiring from professional boxing some few years ago, says Tagoe and his team may never have been at fault and is urging Ghanaian fight fans to see the useful lessons to be learnt from Tagoe’s experience so that no other boxer from this country will suffer such embarrassment again in future.

“It’s a very bad thing that can happen to any boxer, to come all the way from Ghana only for the fight to be cancelled because of something like this. It’s good Tagoe still fought and won even if it was not for the title. A win is very important to every boxer,” Baba told BOXING IN GHANA exclusively.

He cautioned: “You have to be under one pound at least when leaving the country (Ghana). I know sometimes you got to be careful when sitting in the plane, watch what you eat. And yes I agree that all scales are not the same, so if you can make 1 pound under the weight that will help you.”
