Ali Baba Wins

Wed, 19 Apr 2006 Source: --

Alex "Ali" Baba (21-9-1, 16KOs) who has grown into a lightweight, ended a six fight winless streak dating all the way back to 2003 as he outgunned game, but outclassed Miguel Martinez.

The fight started with fireworks as both fighters attempted to gain the other's respect by throwing left and right firebombs at each other. Baba was able to get the best of Martinez as he made him move backwards first and then punished him against the ropes. During the inside trading an accidental head butt opened a gash over the left eye of Baba.

In round two, Baba began to sit more on his punches and landed a left hook on the inside that dropped Martinez. Martinez beat the count and continued to questionably trade with Baba. Although visibly feeling the pain, Martinez refused to hold or move away. This plan served to be detrimental, as Baba landed another series of hard shots to the head and body dropping Martinez again. After beating the count, referee George Chip took a close look at Martinez and decided he'd had enough. The fight was halted at 2:47 of the 2nd round.
