All set for the "Night of Punches"

Accra, Sept. 25, GNA - All is set for what is promised to be one of the best boxing promotions in the country in recent times, termed "The Night of Punches" at the Tennis Court of the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra on Saturday, September 26.

The promotion, the first to be organized after almost three years of inactivity, will see 12 boxers on the bill, which also includes two Brazilians and a Nigerian under the sponsorship of Goldenmike Boxing Promotions.

Mr Mike Tetteh, head of Goldenmike Promotions, in an address at a press conference in Accra on Friday, said his outfit has selected the best of boxers on the local scene for the event, adding that the three foreigners are equally good boxers capable of giving fans their monies worth.

He promised that the event will also be one of the best boxing competitions to be staged in recent times taking into consideration the caliber of boxers on the bill. Mr Tetteh said adequate security arrangements have also been put in place for boxers and the expectant crowd and assured fans of maximum security.

He said the Brazilian boxers are among the best in Brazil and will give the Ghanaians the best of competition. James Armah popularly known as "Bukom Fire' promised to knock out his Brazilian opponent Andre Nascimento adding that "when it comes to boxing, Ghana is far ahead of Brazil and I don't see him surviving the entire rounds".

He said the fight would mark his return to active boxing after years of absence.

On the same bill, Prosper Ankrah of Ghana will take on Ibrahim Adewale of Nigeria in a 12 round Commonwealth final eliminator, whilst Lartei Laryea of Ghana will also battle another Brazilian, Sidney Siquiera in a ten round International Super Lightweight contest. Bilal Mohammed will engage John Larbi in an eight round Lightweight local contest, with Isaac Selorm and Theophilus Tetteh also battling in an eight round Welterweight contest. Former Commonwealth champion Osmanu Adama also takes on Moses Adams in an eight round Middleweight contest. The event will start at 8:00pm and assures of a triller. 25 Sept. 09
