Scotland's Kevin Anderson will face Agoe Ashong of Ghana in the first defence of his Commonwealth welterweight title next month.

The unbeaten 22-year-old will meet the impressive West African, nicknamed 'Tyson' for his combative style, at the Kirkcaldy Ice Rink on December 9.

Anderson claimed the title in September with a split decision over Ashong's countryman, Joshua Okine.

The Ghanaian will arrive in Fife with a record of 15 wins from 16, with his one defeat coming against highly-rated Commonwealth light-middleweight champion Ossie Duran.

But promoter Tommy Gilmour has no fears about the Tyson comparison.

He said: "Ashong is a 'come-forward' type of fighter, not a southpaw.

"His last two wins have been stoppages so he is coming here confident and the fight should be a real cracker.

"He is known as Tyson which is probably because of his style as he has won half of his fights inside the distance.

"He is a bit of a terrier who likes to go forward and put pressure on people.

"And you can never underestimate someone who has only lost once to such a highly-rated fighter like Duran."

Anderson is relishing a different kind of battle with the 28-year-old.

He said: "I won't have to go looking for him or go chasing the fight as he will be in my face all the time.

"I am still fit and ready to go, so I am really looking forward to it."
