Ghanaian Boxing Legend, Azumah “ZumZum” Nelson has stated that he is not interested in becoming the next President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).
The world boxing Hall of famer has widely been tipped to replace incumbent President Peter Zwenes when GBA goes to congress to elect new leaders later this year having played a significant role in the growth of the sports in the country.
But Speaking in an interview, the former WBC Super featherweight Champion, ruled himself out of the contest insisting that there are better ways he can help Ghana boxing attain higher heights.
According to the “boxing Professor”, he wants to be involved directly in the development of talents for growth of the sports so as to bring more world champions for Ghana in the near future.
“No I’m not interested in the presidency”, Azumah told Rainbow Radio in Accra.
“Being GBA President does not guarantee world champions, but I will like rather to play a direct role like being the technical director, so as to polish them for the bigger stage,” he added.
Azumah Nelson is widely considered the greatest African boxer of all time. He held the WBC featherweight title once and the WBC super featherweight title twice.
