Boxer Ishmael Tetteh denied German visa

Boxer Ishmael Tetteh is devastated that his fight in Germany this Saturday has hit a snag after he was denied German entry visa on Monday.

Tetteh, 24-6-2 (13 KOs), the* **Ghanaian boxer nicknamed Black Roy Jones, was billed to fight for the World Boxing Union (WBU) Light Middleweight title against Marco Schulze this Saturday October 15 at the Ofen Stadthalle, Velten, Brandenburg, Germany. But German immigration officials at the German Embassy in Accra demanded the boxer present his own Bank Statement, without which they won’t issue him with a visa.*

*German immigration officials will not budge even though the promoter of the fight who was sponsoring him on the trip had provided every required document including the much sought bank statement. The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) had also issued a covering letter requesting for the boxer to be issued with the visa to make the trip to Germany.*

*Matchmaker Solomon Otoo Lartey who was key in getting the fight opportunity for Tetteh, was livid when he narrated the ordeal to **SportsInGhana.com. *

*“*We are baffled because the boxer is not paying anything, it’s the promoter who is taking care of all the bills and he has provided an authentic bank statement. But they are still demanding that they will not give the visa unless the boxer can present his own bank statement,” Mr. Otoo Lartey said.

The obviously frustrated matchmaker added:

“We travel to the UK always, we’ve travelled to Russia, Switzerland, even now we are about to go to Denmark and none of those embassies demanded anything like this. The promoter and Landmark Promotions CEO Mr. Anthony Kermah have all given out guarantee letters as well as GBA but still nothing.

“The boxer is very disappointed because he has trained for almost 3 months only to be refused visa with fight days away. It’s disappointing.”
