Boxer Lartei Lartey keen on American dream

Former Black Bombers captain also Mortein Boxing League champion Emmanuel Lartei Lartey says his impending trip to the US for gym assessment and possible signing of a professional contract couldn’t have come at a better time for his career.

Super-Lightweight Lartei is billed to travel to the US within the coming days on the invitation of Golden Punch Promotions who have observed the former national and African champion and now want to assess him firsthand after which they could agree a deal to promote the former Zone 3 All-Africa Games gold medallist.

It is an opening that the boxer popularly called Bukom Jah is desperate to grab with both punching fists. “Boxing is my job and a move to America can only help my professional career. My managers are doing well but a promoter no doubt can help me realize my dreams of becoming a world champion. I can’t wait for the opportunity,” Lartei Lartey has told *SportsInGhana.com* in Accra.

The Floyd Mayweather look-alike will also be using the opportunity of gym assessment and its attendant many sparring sessions against quality opposition to fine-tune his preparations for his upcoming fight for the WBO Intercontinental Super Lightweight title in November.

And Emmanuel Adjetey Laryea, trainer of the boxer whose record stands at 16-0 since turning professional in 2005, adds that training in America will be a massive boost of confidence and experience for Lartei Lartey ahead of the fight in November against a yet to be named Australian opponent.

“He will meet different boxers from different backgrounds and there can be no better experience than getting that chance to assess himself with American and world standards,” Coach Laryea stated.

Still unbeaten, Bukom Jah wants to emulate his idol and look-alike Mayweather by soon claiming a world title, to as he tells SportsInGhana.com, among other goals achieve his philanthropic desires. “I like him and want to be like him. Maybe I will be better than him,” Lartei says of the undefeated Floyd Mayweather.

He added: “I want to be world champ because I want to help people in need. I’m a very loving guy and I feel sad when I see people suffering.”
