Chairman of the Volta Regional Boxing Federation, Foster Enam Dagadu has told Herosportsgh.com, their target for 2018 is to get the sport into almost all the districts in the region.

This target is expected to be achieved through a one week boxing Seminar to be held in Ho from February 25 to March 3, 2018. The Seminar aims to train participants to become Coaches, Match Makers, Ring Announcers and also to learn all that it is to know about boxing.

The event which will be facilitated by the national Boxing Coach and other internationally certified coaches will come off at the Pensioners Hall in Ho, at 9am each day.

The Federation which has its office in Ho has one coach who resides in Aflao, making it difficult to train and monitor interested boxers across the region. It is fact that, the recent successes of boxers from the region has sparked interest from the youth to enter into boxing.

Enam, a native of Akoefe in the Ho Municipality promised getting training equipment’s to help spread the sport, through the support of the Ghana Boxing Authority. He also expects less than 50 people to attend the seminar, since it is free.

“We are expecting almost 50 people to attend this seminar. At the end of the day, our target is that, by the end of this year, Boxing will reach almost every district in Volta Region. We want to have boxing clubs in almost all the districts in the region by the end of 2018. So we are calling on everybody who loves the game to come and make something out of it. When you get to Bukom now, everybody wants to be a Coach or match maker because they know what is involved. We have a lot of guys who are showing interest in the sport but we don’t have Coaches, managers to take them through. We will also help them with equipment’s and other things through the support of the Ghana Boxing Authority.”

The VRBF have been able to organize 1 non-title bout in Ho and are also preparing for another one in Hohoe soon. They also extended their support to the recent bout in Penyi and that of Dogboe on January 6.
