Bukom Banku is a coward - Ayitey Powers

Former Ghana and Africa champion, Ayitey Powers is calling the bluff of undefeated Braimah Kamoko and has dared the eccentric boxer to face him in the ring to prove who is best of the duo.

Powers has vowed to end Kamoko’s unbeaten record should he agree to fight him and has been pressing for the bout for almost a year now, albeit without success but he is now more than determined to realize the ambition.

“Bukom Banku is a coward, he can’t stand me in the ring. He knows I will beat him that’s why he’s running away from me. I will stop him in round 6 because I know if we go 12 rounds they will rob for him. The people I’ve fought with in my career, he can’t face any of them. He is a coward,” Powers has exclusively told www.sportsinghana.com.

He continued: “If you want to be a world champion, you’d have to make sure you conquer all the boxers in your area but he has not done so. This is a fight every Ghanaian wants to see but Banku is afraid. He knows that I know him very well because we started together from the amateur ranks. If his manager says Michael Gbenga beat me so I’m old, I want to prove to his manager that I’m not old but it’s Banku who is rather old.”

Backing Ayitey Powers is his physical instructor, Isaac Bruce who says he is very worried about the money Kamoko’s managers are spending to bring in opponents from outside this country to fight him and has dared them to allow Powers to test him in the ring.

“It always saddens my heart to see them bring in worn-out fighters from Argentina, Georgia and the rest who don’t give Bukom Banku any challenge. It’s sad because of the huge amount of money they are throwing into the dustbin in the name of preparing him to be a world champion. Ayitey Powers will beat him convincingly so they should agree to fight,” Mr. Bruce said.

In the event, Team Ayitey Powers maintain that if Banku’s managers and promoters cannot stage the fight, Asamoah Gyan’s BabyJet Promotions are ready with a purse of $30,000 net (Thirty thousand US Dollars) to promote the bout as soon as Kamoko and his camp are ready to fight.

“I am not afraid of Bukom Banku. I want everyone to see the difference and his manager to see that he is wasting his money. Even the $30,000 purse I am ready to take just $10,000 or even if he likes it winner-takes-all so that we fight. I just want the fight to come on so that I will prove that I am better than him.”
