Ghanaian boxer, Joshua Clottey, has stated that the calls made by some Ghanaians for a fight between Isaac Dogboe and Emmanuel Tagoe are needless and should not be entertained.

After Emmanuel Tagoe defended his IBO Lightweight belt at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, January 27, there have been proposals for Dogboe who is the Interim WBO Bantamweight champion to square off with Tagoe.

Tagoe’s camp threw a challenge to Dogboe, and the latter’s camp has accepted to fight the James Town native at an agreed weight of 130 pounds (super featherweight) but Clottey says both boxers are not in the same rank and the calls must be ignored.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Class Sports on Tuesday, January 30, he said: “I don’t know who engineered this idea because I have been asked many times and I keep on saying that we as a country shouldn’t support such [an] idea. We shouldn’t hype anything about this proposed fight.

“How can a lightweight and a super bantamweight be in the same ring? Let’s assume that Emmanuel Tagoe wants to fight Isaac Dogboe and he [Dogboe] accepts but wants Tagoe to reduce in size because we will have to fight in a certain weight but the truth is Emmanuel Tagoe can never make further weight and even if he is able to do that before he gets into the ring he will be a dead man walking”.
