Ofori Asare, head coach of Ghana’s Amateur boxing team, Black Bombers is expressing profound gratitude to all within the Ghanaian boxing fraternity for their unflinching support over the years after earning an invitation from the International Boxing Association (AIBA) as one of the top coaches to participate at the AIBA/APB/WSB Coaches Instructors’ Workshop running January 16 to 24, 2013 in Assisi, Italy.

Coach Asare, an AIBA 3-Star Coach, according to the AIBA letter that invited him for the 9-day event, “the core purpose of this workshop is to train and certify Coaches Instructors in all 3 AIBA programmes for further education of coaches and boxers around the world. Therefore, after an intensive selection process, you have been chosen to be a potential candidate to become a Coach Instructor.”

Coach Asare who is currently in the European country for the workshop, says he will take full advantage of the chance to become a ‘coach of (boxing) coaches’. “Its once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I hope I can learn from it. I will make sure it will not be a waste because they went through a rigorous process to select coaches from all over the world. So if you are lucky to be there, then you have to make maximum use of it,” Coach Asare exclusively told www.sportsinghana.com moments before flying out of the country on Wednesday morning.

He added: “I hope to improve more on my technical knowledge and new developments in the game. I hope to also make friends and establish good relations and connections with some of the very best coaches who will also attend so that we can collaborate for the future development of Ghana boxing.” He also reserved some words of praise for the various Ghanaian boxing stakeholders who have contributed to his rise to become coach of the national amateur team.

“I want to thank the President of GABA (Ghana Amateur Boxing Association), Ambassador Ray Quarcoo for facilitating and making this possible. I also thank all those who have had confidence in me and supported and helped me in diverse ways all these years. I will do my best not to let them down,” Coach Asare said.
