Ghana experienced a mixed fortune in boxing at the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Ghana’s Jessy Lartey had an easy payday with walk-over Tanzanian Mafuru Nasaar Mafuru, in the prelims of the Men’s Lightweight (60kg) after the later failed to appear for the fight.

Lartey will now fight Rwandan Oliveir Nshigiro of Rwanda, who drew in the prelims at the second round of the competition.

Musah Lawson however failed to live up to the billing when he lost by a unanimous decision to Arthur Biyaslanov of Canada in the Men’s Lightwelter weight (64kg).

The Ghanaian put up a brave fight, but it was not enough to save his dreams of advancing to the next stage of the competition.

Ghana will be seeking to win some medals in the competition from boxing, which is regarded as one of the gold mines of the country in the games.

Boxing has provided the nation with the highest number of medals in the Commonwealth Games.
