Repeat or Revenge: Commonwealth title fight in Accra Saturday

The countdown is over as the Ya Buga Shii? (Repeat or Revenge) boxing show presented by Junior Walaga Promotions takes centre stage this Saturday June 18 at the Lebanon House in the heart of Accra when undefeated Obodai Sai fights old foe Joseph Lamptey for the vacant Commonwealth Light Middleweight contest over 12 rounds.

The all-Ghanaian battle is a repeat of their controversial bout back in 2009 when Obodai Sai alias The Miracle won via a split point decision to claim the Ghana Light Middleweight title. Joseph Lamptey popularly called Horror Horror has never accepted that verdict and now has the chance to set the record straight on Saturday.

According to Suleiman Abdulai, Promoter of the fight, this is the first in a series of many world class championships Junior Walaga Promotions will be staging in their quest to rekindle boxing and its popularity among Ghanaians.

“Boxing is big and with the many potential world champions we’ve got in this country, it’s paramount that we organize big fights here to propel our boxers to the world. We are committed to making boxing popular again and we hope to make a world title fight happen in Ghana within a year,” Mr. Abdulai told All Sports.

Other big fights on the Ya Buga Shii fight bill features Ishmael Tetteh against Isaac Selorm for the national Light Middleweight crown whilst Herbert Quartey and Razak Nettey slug it out for the national Super Bantamweight belt.

Also on the cards are a national super featherweight title contest between Nana Brenya Bee and Prince Ofotsu, an international welterweight bout between Dodzi Kemeh and Togolese Apovo Achille as well as super featherweight clash featuring Raphael Mensah against Odarlai Lamptey.

Completing the fixture list for the Revenge or Repeat boxing extravaganza for which GH?15 will be charged for ringside and GH?7 for popular stand is a lightweight contest between Samuel Kotey Neequaye and a yet to be announced Nigerian opponent.
