Dogbe confident of win against Ansah

Featherweight prospect, Isaac Dogbe, is full of confidence ahead of his first professional fight in Ghana on Saturday.

Dogbe, the latest Ghanaian boxing sensation dubbed the Pride of Ashanti, is scheduled to square it up against Raymond Ansah in a featherweight clash at the Wembley Park at Kotobabi as one of the mouthwatering undercards of the Ayitey Powers versus Joe Sarbah fight.

The UK based boxer was introduced to Ghana boxing by former chairman of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF), Ambassador Ray Quarcoo, at the amateur level where he joined the Black Bombers and participated in a number of championships including the ECOWAS Games which he won a gold medal.

But his romance with the Bombers ended with the resignation of Ambassador Quarcoo, citing personal reasons.

Barely two years after joining the pay-per-punch ranks, Dogbe has conquered all seven opponents in impressive fights staged in the United Kingdom and hopes to extend his all conquering exploits to Ghana where he admits the terrain and dynamics are different.

“I have trained very well and in the best of shapes and very ready for this fight. However, I am not taking anything for granted knowing how tough and rugged Ghanaian boxers can be. You underestimate a Ghanaian opponent and you regret for the rest of your life,” Dogbe stressed in a chat with the Times Sports.

The main bout of the night, however, is the cruiserweight clash between Ayitey Powers and Joe Sarbah who has also vowed to silence the vociferous followers of Powers.

A commonwealth eliminator will see Isaac Quartey lock horns with Isaac Nettey in a 12-round bantamweight clash.

Maxwell Awuku will engage Richard Amefu in a 10-round lightweight contest.

In a national welterweight championship, Isaac Aryee will face Ebenezer Amedor for the title.

Meanwhile, the organisers have announced that a giant screen would be mounted to beam live the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Andre Berto.

Ako Patterson, a matchmaker told the Times Sports yesterday that over a 1000 tickets for the fight were sold last week Friday when the first press conference for the fight was held at the venue.
