Accra, July 26, GNA - Eight national titles remain vacant, according to the quarterly ratings of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA). The vacant categories are in the Heavyweight, Cruiserweight, Light Heavyweight, Super Middleweight, Middleweight, Super Featherweight, Bantamweight, Super Flyweight and Flyweight.

However, Osmanu Adama, Philip Kotey, Moro Tijani, Raymond Narh, Ben Odametey and Jonathan Yartey occupy the national titles in the Super Welterweight, Welterweight, Super Lightweight, Lightweight, Featherweight and Super Batamweight divisions respectively.

Mr Moses Foh-Amoaning, Acting Chairman of the GBA told the GNA Sports that the Authority would soon nominate boxers to engage in mandatory fights and title defence as well as eliminators for most of the vacant titles by the close of the week.

He said the Board Members of the Authority would meet on Thursday to take a decision on the vacant titles after which it would be communicated to the boxers, their managers and promoters.

The Acting Chairman, however, noted that the GBA would decide on the fights in consultation with the promoters and managers of the boxers since they are the main stake-holders in the pugilist sport.

"We don't want to assume the role of promoters and managers, hence the need to involve them in the nomination process." Mr Foh-Amoaning stated.

He said the GBA does not want to take up the role of promoters and managers hence its decision to involve them in the process.
