Fredrick Lawson defeats Ray Narh in all Ghanaian clash in US

An upset was recorded in Welterweight Boxing history when Frederick Nii Lante Lawson, alias General Okunka, scored an impressive unanimous victory over renowned fellow Ghanaian Welterweight Boxer, Raymond Narh staged at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, USA on Wednesday, October 1, 2014.

The fight that was telecast live on ESPN 2 was the first time two boxers from Ghana had faced off in an international eliminator.

World title chasing Fredrick Nii Lante Lawson, who once again had his championship credentials sternly tested looked aggressive, sharp and focused knocking down his senior compatriot, Ray Narh in the second and eighth rounds.

Undefeated Lawson with 23-0, 20 KOs; who still has a commercial management contract with Centre-Stage Management (CSM) in Ghana has been settling into his career in the USA where he arrived at the beginning of this year; marking his debut fight in America with a convincing 5th round stoppage of Ugandan-American, Mohammed Kayongo back in April.

Lawson also previously held both the IBF Continental Africa as well as IBF International Welterweight titles and has been promised a possible world title eliminator within his next two to three fights after signing a new promotional and management contract with California-based King sports Promotions.

Famously nicknamed General Okunka, the first task for Lawson on the Kingsport contract, was well-accomplished when he twice knocked down the challenger, Ray Narh aka The Emperor, 36-year-old with 26-5, 21 KOs.

Ray Narh, The Emperor is a former Commonwealth Games Gold medalists and USNBC Light Welterweight Champion but has suffered four losses in his last five fights.

The two Ghanaians fought on the undercard of the IBF Middleweight title eliminator between Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam, and Curtis Stevens screened live on ESPN 2.

ESPN 2 is an American basic cable and satellite television network that is owned by ESPN Inc.; a joint venture between Walt Disney Company (which owns a controlling 80% stake) and Hearst Corporation (which owns the remaining 20%).
