Accra, Oct. 12, GNA - The Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) will organize an Individual Boxing Championship from Thursday, October 22 to Saturday, October 24 at the Prisons Canteen, Cantonment. The three-day event is to select boxers to represent the Association for an impending international assignment in the United Kingdom next February.
Gideon Quartey, Acting Chairman of GAABA told GNA Sports that boxers who will excel at the championship will make up the core of the team to face the Haringey Boxing Club in London early next year. The regional body has twice failed in their bid to honour invitations from their British counterparts, but Quartey affirmed that preparations are on track to make the trip next February. He explained that the Association has lined up attractive prizes including trophies, medals, cash rewards and certificates to outstanding boxers.
Quartey announced that participation in the event is opened to all gyms within the region and beyond. He therefore appealed to corporate bodies for support towards making the project a success. This will be the second time GAABA, considered the most effective regional sports Association is organizing such a programme aimed at developing amateur boxing in the country.
