GBA releases ratings for the year

The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has released its rakings for May and has mandated a number of champions to compulsorily defend their titles by the end of June. Some titles have also been declared vacant and prospective boxers have been named to fight for such titles while the GBA has sanctioned some elimination bouts.

In the rankings, Aloryi Moyoyo Mensah is the holder of the African Boxing Union (ABU) Cruiserweight title while the National title remains vacant. The contenders for this title are Ibrahim Marshal and Sugar Ray Akwei Jnr. The National Light-heavyweight title is vacant and Epiphany Pipi, Franklin Okine and Joseph Addo are the contenders.

The Super middleweight title is also vacant and Braimah Kamoko and Flash Ibole Issaka are scheduled to fight for it on a date yet to be determined. The possible contenders in this rank are Charles Adamu, Daniel Sackey and Prince Mahama.

James Toney holds the African Boxing Union (ABU) Middleweight title while the national title is also vacant. Anyetei Sowah and Baba Kennedy have been named as the contenders. Osmanu Adama is the African Boxing Union (ABU) Super welterweight champion where as the national title is vacant. The contenders for the title are, Alfred Tetteh, Robertson Kutsokey, Emmanuel Lartey, Alarape Akeem, Mohamed Bameyi, George Amuzu and Felix Narh.

In the Welterweight division, Joshua Clotey is the African Boxing Union (ABU) title holder with Joshua Okine as the national champion. Okine is to have a mandatory title defence with Ago Ashong by the end of June. Ashia Quaye Aryee, Daniel Fynn, Julius Obiri and Isaac Sowah are the contenders in this division.

Lateikwei Hammond is the National Super Lightweight champion and would have a mandatory title defence against Stephen Okine. Other contenders in the division are Moro Tijani, Badu Akwettey, Kwabena Sarfo, Isaac Quartey, Francis Lamptey, Sulley Ngua, Chester Ocquaye, Baba Clay and Roland Mills.

Joseph Sarkodie and Ben Ankrah in the National Light weight division are to engage in an elimination bout for the winner to face Ben Neequaye who is the current National lightweight champion. The other contenders in this division are Bilal Mohamed, Alex Brew, Zakaria Salifu, Sam Ray, Abraham Jeffa, Romeo Acquaye and Arday Dawuda.

Raymond Narh the National and West Africa Super Fearther Weight champion would have his mandatory defence on 2 September this year. Other boxers in this division are Eric Odumase, Smith Odoom, Alfred Kotey Abdulai Amidu , Kpakpo Allotey, Thomas Doudo, Emmanuel Odoi, and Emmanuel Cudjoe.

Moubi Armstrong National Featherweight champion has also been mandated by the GBA to have a compulsory defence of his title by September. He is likely to face Osmanu Akaba, Samuel Danso, Ben Odamatten, Ayittey Mettle, Theophilus Quaye, Ben Tutu, Ali Baba, Kofi Boateng, Aminu Turkson and Alfred Odai who are all in his rank.

Abdul Malik Jabir who won the National Super Batam weight title in February last year, is supposed to have a compulsory defence by May 25 this year while John Abdulai and Imurana Bozo are to fight for the eliminations. Mohamed Laryea, John Abdulai, Imurana Bozo, Adamu Mohamed and C.A. Kpakpo Allotey are the other contenders in this rank.

According to the GBA Anyetei Laryea is the National Bantamweight champion while Joseph Agbeko is the World Boxing Council (WBC) champion. Alfred Tetteh and Sowah Thompson are the only contenders the division. Sumaila Badu, the new National Super Fly weight champion, would have a mandatory title defence in December with Asamoah Wilson and Galley Cudjoe as the contenders in the rank. The National Fly weight title is vacant and Osmanu Terry and Anyomi Savondra are scheduled to fight for the title. Also in the rank are Twum Asmodel and Alfred Quaye.
