*The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) will meet boxer Braimah Kamoko popularly called Bukom Banku and representatives of Golden Concept outfit GoldenMike Boxing Promotions next week Friday March 18, 2011 in a bid to find an amicable settlement of the current misunderstanding between the boxer and his promoters.*
According to Samir Captan, President of GBA, the meeting scheduled for the Foodies Restaurant at Osu R E has become necessary in the wake of developments in the aftermath of the Bukom Banku’s visit to the office of Vice President His Excellency John Mahama some few weeks ago. Media reports allegedly engineered by GoldenMike Promotions widely circulated that the boxer had acted unprofessionally by going to see the Vice President without their consent among many other unprintable charges including presenting a fake belt to Mr. Mahama.
But Mr. Captan who describes himself as a father figure for all within the boxing fraternity says the rules do not allow an aggrieved person to go to press before coming to the authority as GoldenMike did. He also reckons that even if the boxer was wrong, there is no use crucifying him because though he is an idol, he is also human and therefore not infallible, so it will be wrong to come into the public domain with certain issues which are completely private.
“I have no qualm with nobody, I do everything as best as I can. My principle is based on God’s word that do unto others what you want others to do unto you. When an issue comes up, I know we can solve it by talking over it because there is a saying in Ga that when your child defecates on your lap, you don’t cut it off but rather wash it. Then you can reprimand the child so that he realizes that next time he should not repeat it,” Mr. Samir Captan stated.
That is why the Board of GBA has arranged a meeting to discuss the aforementioned agenda, because of its implication for the development and upward progress of professional boxing in Ghana. It is a source of worry to the Authority.
