President of Ghana Boxing Authority Lawyer Peter Zwennes has sworn to drag the Ghana police service to court for attempting to cover up for their errant officer (one Aikins) who is alleged to have knocked down Isaac Aryee, a former national welterweight champion whilst driving a motorbike on the Mortuary Road in Accra.

Aryee was allegedly hit by a police patrol car being driven by the above-mentioned police officer on May 5 2017 whilst he was return from a boxing training.

According to eyewitnesses, the former champion was being pursued by the police patrol team car for driving an unlicensed motorbike, but he was knocked down in the process.

The police car then sped off leaving the boxer to his fate, until a passer-by came to his rescue and sent him to the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital where he received a surgery.

But over three weeks after the incident, the Korlebu District Police, which is handling the case has failed to make any arrest, with investigators claiming the said Aikins was not the cause of the accident.

However, the GBA boss has cautioned the police to be truthful or face the wrath of the law.

“Isaac Aryee was pursued by police vehicle driven by one Aikins a police officer called Aikings from Mamprobi police station.” Mr. Zwennes told Atinka TV Sports

“He knows Aikins very well and he know he was the one pursuing him, there were also witnesses who saw it happened.” “I’m told Aikins is a notorious character on the street most of Trotro and Taxi drivers know him.”

“I have heard that commanding officer at the Mamprobi police station is trying to put up an alibi for Aikins saying that he was not the one who hit him he was nowhere there but there witnesses.”

“I want to advice that police commander in this media that if he doesn’t want to be accessory to crime he should be continue peddle lies to the public, I’m using this medium to tell him point blankly.”

“If he may not fight again it means the action of the police officer has truncated the boxer’s career so we need to sue.” “Apart from the criminal aspect of that policeman he has to be charge with the appropriate offense.”

“With the civil aspect we have lawyers within the boxing fraternity and they will take it up for the young man to sue both the Ghana police service and the errant officer for damages and loss of career which for us is quite substantial.” He added
