of Rivalry’ August 27

It’s Ghana against Nigeria again as fight action powered by Landmark Promotions and Management syndicate rocks the Lebanon House in the heart of Accra on August 27 with a Commonwealth title at stake in the headliner.

When Ghana’s Cobbinah Johnson fights Nigerian Yaqub Kareem in the main bout for the vacant Commonwealth Super Flyweight belt, it will also be a re-live of the fierce rivalry between the two West African nations. Hence the tag name ‘Night of Rivalry,’ for the total of eight bouts on August 27. With the Ghana-Nigeria soccer friendly cancelled last week, the rivalry extends into the boxing ring this time. Kareem who has been in Ghana for more than two months training under Jesse Lartey at the Fit Square Gym has sworn to silence Ghana but Cobbinah Johnson says no way. “This is my home ground so if I lose then I better quit boxing,” Johnson has responded. It’s also reported that two VIP buses full of Nigerian fans are coming down to throw their full support behind Yaqub Kareem.

Another rivalry of a bout is the all-Chorkor Lightweight contest between Michael Ansah alias One Bullet and Samuel Turkson with sets of fans of both boxers expected to troop the Lebanon House to charge the atmosphere. Rafael Mensah against Odarlai Laryea in a Super Featherweight eliminator is another interesting match-up which promises fireworks.

In other bouts, Gabriel Odoi Laryea faces Asamoah Wilson in Bantamweight eliminator, National Super Welterweight championship featuring Isaac Selrom versus Sampson Tetteh, a Welterweight contest between Isaac Aryee and Justice Addy as well as Habib Mohammed against Eric Kwadey and Sena Agbeko versus Anyetei Sowah (both Super Middleweight contests).

Ring side goes for GH?10 and the popular stand GH?5 with the gates opening at 6pm.

“Security will be good, the boxers also promise quality boxing and side attraction entertainment all to ensure fans have their money’s worth,” said Anthony Kermah, CEO of Landmark Promotions.
